I got many of my components the other day to start a Rainshadow SU1264 for my brother in law. It will be set up for spinning with split EVA grips - one piece at end of butt, one just below reel seat and one just above real seat. How long do you make each of these pieces for both aesthetics and function? The one at the bottom will obviously be used in the cast and the one at the very top if fighting a big fish, though I imagine the ones bracketing the reel seat are less crucial on spinning than casting since you effectively hold the seat with a spinning rod.
Also, the EVA grips I received are 8" and 10". I take it I can just cut them to whatever length I want? Re: Need help w/ split EVA surf rod grip

I make mine 6" for all 3 grips. The bottom grip has the taper pointing up, the grip at the reel seat has the taper pointed down and the fore grip taper pointing up. Jesse Re: Need help w/ split EVA surf rod grip

For the lower grips I typically use 6 or 8" EVA, 6" for shorter rods, 8" for 11-12' rods. I personally like longer fore grips, usually 10". You can also wrap the exposed blank between the lower grips with colored nylon twine. Looks good and protects the blank from rod holders, rocks, etc. Russ Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
