Forecast ferrule wrap?

I just received my first two rod blanks - both Forecast - one is an 8'6" 4wt, the other a 6'6" UL spinning. They are 2003 blanks, teal in color. My question is this: How far should the male end seat on the female end of the blank sections? They seem to seat at least two inches or so to become "seated". Is this normal? Also, how far should I really wrap the female ferrule to reinforce the hoop strength? I've read two rod diameters, and the entire length of the ferrule. How long is the ferrule? It's difficult to tell where the reinforcement/ferrule ends on the female section.
Thanks in advance!!! Rich Re: Forecast ferrule wrap?

Two ferrule diameters will be fine with the Forecast blanks. Re: Forecast ferrule wrap?

Rich, I've heard several answers to this question and I still don't know what the "correct" answer is, if such a thing exists. What I do is to wrap the female ferrrule 1/2 the length of the amount of male end that is inserted. For example, in your case where you have 2 inches of overlap, I would wrap approximately 1". I don't know if that is the best way to do it but I have never had a ferrule failure since I have been doing it that way. And the majority of my blanks are Rainshadow and Forecast. As far as the amount of male end that should seat in the female ferrule, 2" isn't at all unusual.

Hey Rich,
That 4 weight was my first blank too. I notice that the ferrules seemed really long too. I also noticed that in comparison to some other rods I've looked at they are prety beefy. I ended up wrapping mine about 3/4" but if I were to re-do it I would have made them shorter for weight and cosmetics reasons. Mark Re: Forecast ferrule wrap?
