I am replacing a flush mount reel seat on a fly rod. Is it possible to make it a inlet reel seat with out replaceing the cork grip. I was thinking of glueing another cork ring with space for the inlet on the bottom of the grip. Or can it cut sand out the end of the grip that is on It. Josh Re: Is this possible

You have obviously figured out the problem. It is much easier to replace with another flush mount or remove the original grip as well. Adding a ring with an inletted hood will work if you can shorten the insert proportionately so as to stay on the blank. Have you considered a down locking seat? The trim ring will flush up against the original cork. Re: Is this possible

An uplocking seat often comes with an inletted ring. You can remove the rear 1/2in. of the grip and replace it with the inletted ring. Ralph If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Re: Is this possible

A few uplocking designs (Pac Bay comes to mind, for one) have upper hoods that are milled to butt up against the grip w/o being covered by the cork. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
