Can anyone tell me how the fighting butt is added to this rod. I know it just screws in, but into what. And how do you mount the what? Does that make any sense?

Hi there. Thats my rod, so I guess I can answer this. The butt is built on the commonly available fighting butt hardware. I don't recall which brand I used (forecast, pac bay or American Tackle) but they all make them. The alloy butt cap is mounted on an eva base, then glued to the hardware. This piece of hardware screws into a piece that is inserted into the end of the blank. Because I used a large piece of blank as an oversleeve, the hardware slipped right in. This hardware is designed and sized to fit into the end of common fly reelseats. In my case the oversleeve blank is the same i.d. as a reelseat. Of course I used Rod Bond for all connections.

Make sense? Let me know if it doesn't.

Mark

That makes sense. I've never built a fly rod, and, therefore, never seen what a fighting butt looks like.

You, by the way, are a master craftsman. You are very innovative in part selection. It is quite refreshing to see photos of your work.

Mark,
I tried to email you but your address is hidden. I'm on a new puter so I'm rebuilding my address book, plus I have a question for you. Can you drop me a line when you get a chance?
