Need a temporary guide wrap

I'm going on a trip next week, guided fly fishing, and want to take a rod I am building. However, I will not get the components until this week so I will not have time to do it and let the epoxy finish cure. Would it work to do the static and casting tests, wrap the guides on and glue the thread with a coat of color preserver, then take the guides back off and rewrap and finish with epoxy after I get back? It might also help me to tweak the setup after fishing with it for a couple of days. Re: Need a temporary guide wrap

That should work fine and might mean that you'll end up with a BETTER rod in the long run! Go for it! Re: Need a temporary guide wrap

Maybe a coat of Permagloss. It dries quick. Just to be on the safe side Re: Need a temporary guide wrap

I fished a fly rod I rewrapped for two years with only two coats of CP. This was before I discovered this site. It took that long for several of the guides to work loose. A coat of Perma Gloss over CP can't hurt. Your rod should be fine. Ralph If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
