I've been going over all the manufactures specs on their salt fly rods and I can't decide. Please help! I need a rod to cast flies a 100', be able to cast smaller to large flies, be durable and be of very high quality. Am I dreaming? I've looked at Gatti FT's but hear you've got to treat them delicately- any truth to that? I've looked at Dan Craft FT's but they only offer a 4pc. Any body have any experience with these or have any other suggestionj? I'm loking at 9 footers only because I think a 10' might wear me out at the end of a long day of casting. Any truth to that? Thanks guys I do appreciate you help with this!! Re: The perfect 9wt. for FL flats fishing?

I don't know about perfect. But I love my Allstar Austin 9' 8wt for flats. Re: The perfect 9wt. for FL flats fishing?

A Dan Craft SigV 9'0" 10 weight might be perfect for the application if you don't mind bumping up a line size. I took one with me to Florida last year and it performed like a champ.

Hi Roger--yeah, Steve's right...the Austin's were pretty special (especially for this kind of fishing). I still think you'd be quite pleased with the Dan Craft FT or Rainshadow RX8+ (though you'll have to wait for another month+ on the latter, unfortunately). From your above statement it sounds like you'd prefer something different than a 4pc--specifically more or less sections? Re: The perfect 9wt. for FL flats fishing?

What are you fishing for? I fish the flats here in Florida a lot, and much prefer a lighter rod (7- or even 6-weight, depending on wind/location). But I'm mostly fishing for reds, trout, and the occasional snook. Re: The perfect 9wt. for FL flats fishing?

I'll be fishing for Reds, Snook, Sea Trout and small Tarpon. I'll be fishing the E. coast of FL. The Reds can go any where from 5-30 lbs. I go there every spring and I'm about to make it my permanent home. The Tarpon can be 30-40 lbs and that's why I was thinking of a 9 wt. For right now I'm trying to do that with one rod.
