Weaving set up how to's

I have a loom I got from Jim Kastorff and have not done much weaving at all because it takes me so long to get all threads cut and in their place. Has someone got an "how to" for weave set ups. Making the patterns is not a problem but getting the threads cut and set up is. It just takes so much time when you don't really know what your doing.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
Jim will send you a sketch if you ask
Doc Ski has a very good tape available
For what it's worth, I don't think set up is much trouble after a few weaves.

Here's what I do, I'm sure there's a better way, but until I receive Doc Ski's DVD, it's all I know. I tape one end of the weave thread to a CD case and start wrapping, packing the threads tightly together as I go. I often miscount so I usually give it a couple of extra wraps. I then put another piece of masking tape across all the thread and cut it with my exacto. There's some static that build up but it goes away after a few minutes. Peel the tape and threads off and stick them on the blank. I tried using something round, but found this to work better for me.

steve, I can't imagin what's taking so long to cut and setup the threads in your loom. I cut the threads with a sissors, each about 18" long, usually about 15 at a time and put them on the double stick tape I use, then in their individual slots on the loom. since the first thread I put in the loom is the center thread which is the longest thread, the second 15 threads I cut are usually about an inch shorter than the first bunch, then the next group another inch shorter and so on till all are cut.
A typical 60-70 thread single color weave might take a half hour to setup. Tedious yes, but not that long.
email me if you have specific questions
Jim

I almost forgot that I made this post....The wife and I have a 1 week old.

Anyway, I usually just cut one thread at a time and was looking for a way to get the threads cut faster and at one time. I would cut some and tape'em down, cut some more and tape'em down and so on till I got to the end. Just looking for a way to do it faster. Then I saw Jim Kastorff's "Baby Dragon" weave and thought about giving up weaving all together...LOL
