I'm about to wrap my 7'9" Forecast 3 weight tonight and am second guessing my guide choice. I have yet to ever build a fly rod and will be using ceramic I planned on using a dbl ft 12,10, then fly 6's the rest of the way out. Am I way off? I looked to see what St croix shows and it looks like I'm off. I cannot test cast it becasue I dont own a fly reel yet. Re: forecast 3#

Single foot 6 fly guides should NOT be higher than your 12 dbl. ft. They should be considerably shorter. Are you sure you ordered fly guides? Sounds like you may have spinning guides. Re: forecast 3#

No my 6's are fine. I was asking if it were 10 and 8 single foot fly guides! I have single foot 10's and 8's for spinning rods but they are higher than my dbl ft 12 Re: forecast 3#

this is a little late.... i'd think a 10 as a stripper would be enough, no need to go to a 12, but if you want to experiment with a slightly oversized guide, then 12 would be cool too. it's all relative! my 7'9" 3 weight rainforest and my 8' fly rods, i've used a single stripper, usually size 10 (LOVE the pac bay N style guide). for the rainforest i used single foot ceramics and i think i used an 8, then a 7, then 6s all the way down (up? ;-) to the tip top.

I thought you meant all fly guides but wanted to make sure. I'll just have to order a few more guides. Re: forecast 3#

If you aren't rough on your equipment single foot ceramic fly guides will be fine on your 3wt. rod. A #10 guide is quite large enough for a stripper on a 3wt.. I would use a #10, 8, then 6's to the tip. You could also use a #6 guide for the tip itself, it being much lighter than a regular tip. Don't forget a security wrap, the Forhan is a really good one. Ralph If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Re: forecast 3#
