I got an old surf type rod that was branded by someone for the label " Jack Eckert". Unless your an old timer from Fla it probably does not mean much, but us that remember these old poles may just want to get them looking like new again, for practice and fun. The one I have feels nice and I will use it again. Any tips on finding fairly original guides and such would be appriciated. This is going to be my first attempt at the whole rod building experience and as most of you already know I'll be stuck for life there after. My ultimate goal is to buid a few special pole, fly, casting and spinning for my kids. maybe even show a few at future rod show : ) P.S. I caught a big snook on one of these back in the 60's. My recollection of "Jack Eckerd" rods are of chrome plated (wire) guides and reel seats that were probably the cheapest thing on the market at that time.
Usually wrapped in brown and yellow or red and black. I don't know what kind of finish was used but the sun really did a number on it. White fiber glass rods. Mostly spinning rods. Sold to a lot of tourists . Rods were tough but finish might last a season or two. Occasionally still see them and components at garage sales and flea markets. Re: old rods in fla

Bernie,
You can get Perfection hard chrome guides from Angler's Workshop, a sponsor to the left. They should look very much like the old guides on that rod, if they are not the exact guides used. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
