Silly problem installing gimbal

Dear friends,

In the last rod I've built, I thought in installing gimbal when the rod would be finish. My bright mind though it would make easier to fix the rod to the power wraper, and it did.

The problem is that when I tried to install the gimbal (I repeat, the rod was finished) traped air in the bottom of the gimbal made a very strong resistance, due to internal pressure. Air remained trapped between the bottom of the gimbal and the tape bushings I made arroun the blank bottom.

I had to tie the gimbal to the reelseat to get in on place. I don't know the result when epoxy will be dry.

Is there any more clever way to do this or gimbal must always be installed before the tip top?.

Drill a small hole dead center in the gimbal.

I've already though about this but I was not sure to do it. It's an aluminum gimbal and drilling it will make anodization to loos in this area. Will epoxy protect it anyway?

Daniel,I ran into this once and drilled a tiny hole(smalllest from the index)in the blank above the bushing.I didnt apply epoxy above the bushing until the gimble was run all the way up.i then pulled it down and worked some epoxy into the gap.My belief is that the hole is so close to the butt that it will not effect strength and it was also filled by epoxy.I`m not really sure how much the pressure inside the blank will build with temperture inscrease but it may be enough to blow off the gimble(tires gain 1psi for every 10 degrees farenheight).

Per the article in RodMaker, just drill a small hole in the bottom of the gimbal. Adhesive will be pushed out the hole and will seal it once all the air escapes.

Or you can install the tip-top last. Anything that allows air to escape.

I use 1/4" tape to make my bushings and when I get everything set and ready to epoxy I cut a small slit in the bushing so it lets the air out as I push the gimbal on. Some of the other Ideas sound good too.
