DC SIG V 10# guide selection

Hey guys-

I'll finally be getting around to building my SIG V 10# flyrod sometime over the next few weeks. I'd like to get some feedback from those more experienced builders regarding how small I should taper the guides down to. I'm planning on going with Fuji SiC guides, and will be using a shooting head system. Should I run 8s or 10s out towards the tip?

Thanks!

Joe , use guides thet will let your knots pass , if they will pass thru 8s , good , if not ,use 10s. Once you are into the running line it dosen't matter , the knots will dictate your guide size . Have fun , john

Got Fish ?

Hi Joe! I'd be pretty surprised if the 8's weren't sufficient. That's where I'd start, at least. The 7's allow SOME multi-tip lines through, but not all...I've flinched more than once as a fish took off from near the boat! ;) Of course, you gotta deal with a slightly uglier (but more robust) tip top if you want to stay at 8 (unless AmTak added an 8 to their new Titan fly guide lineup?).

All the best,

That stick is a ROCKET. Enjoy!

I built mine with size 6 SF snakes and found that it was barely enough to clear large loop connections...but then again, if you don't need that much knot clearance, I can't see much reason to put #10's on there and dampen what otherwise is a GREAT blank....

Joe,

As John mentioned, the 8s should do the trick! As far as the tip tops go, I have SIC 8mm light fly tip tops made specail for us. Unfortunately, I only have 4.5 and 5.0s in stock. We will have the 5.5s in soon.
Thanks,

Dan
