CP and no CP together

I'm building up a rod using Gudebrod Red slik. On the butt wrap I want to have the inscription under the finished (FC lite) thread, but have bright, color-preserved thread as trim bands on either side. Can I wrap the trim, CP it then wrap the main wrap finish it, then wrap the other trim wrap. Will I be able to get them nice and close together? Are there any better ways to do this?

You could try using ncp thread for the trim, or metallic for the trim. Neither of these need cp.

If you can do both trim wraps first, there isn't any reason why it wouldn't work. If you have the nylon thread next to nylon thread, I doubt you could put CP on just a couple of wraps because the stuff will wick through the thread. Alternatively, you could do the main wrap, put on a very thin coat of finish, wait for it to dry, then do the trim wraps and apply CP.

I would suggest going Gerry's alternate route and apply the finish to the main wrap and then laydown your trim wraps and CP them and then finish the entire wrap. This pretty much elimates any chance of the CP getting on the main wrap.

I've done this sort of thing a number of times, and Gerry's way is the best. The one thing you want to watch is having any finish overlap the edges of your inscription area. Use a piece of coffee filter with some alchohol on it to clean the blank of any unwanted finish right up to the edge of the threads. This way, you can wrap your trim, and butt it tightly up against your main wrap.
