I'm looking at a surf rod with a reel seat thats held on with electrical tape and I'm trying to figure the best way to repair/reattach it, short of replacing it and the grip materiel. It sits on top of the handle, not actually around it. The model# on the reel seat is Fuji FS-7SB. I cant find anything on it on the web. I did find this pic, attached, that looks similar. I cant tell how its held onto the rod..it almost looks like some sort of banding. Anyone got a clue? Your thoughts?

Steve, it looks like a "plate type" reel seat, and I think they are wrapped on with thread. If electrical tape is holding it on, just remove the tape and wrap it with thread. Should tighten it right up. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 04/21/2005 08:26AM by Bruce Wetzel. Re: Surf Rod Reel Seat

Its a plate seat. Some folks use electrical tape to hold the seat on. this allows you to move the seat as needed by simply removing the tape. A little better tape alternative is the white "1st aid" medical tape that is fiber reinforced - looks like white cloth with adhesive on one side. It has very little or no stretch, comes in rolls.

It's a plate type surf seat made by Fuji - atleast the one in the pic is. :) Most of the suppliers on the left will have them. Re: Surf Rod Reel Seat

I woulda never guessed that tape was an 'accepted' practice/method for holding the seat on, but then have never come across this plate type before. Thanks. Re: Surf Rod Reel Seat

The one in the photo is held down with thread and epoxy. However the one I use is taped on. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
