I read the discussion of April12 concerning spine. I learned quite a bit, thank you all. It did leave me a little confused though. I have a Courtland 9 ft graphite fly rod that I bought in the mid 80's as part of a rod and reel combo. It is the rod I learned I learned to fly cast with. My daughter learned to fish with it and I still use it as a spare. It does twist when you cast it. Depending on how far you're casting, the tip will slowly work it's way to the right until it's almost pointing up. It is the only rod I have ever seen this happen with. What would make this happen?
Joe Luebeck The guides are aligned in a straight line. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/20/2005 09:01PM by Joe Luebeck. Re: spine in relation to guides (revisited)

The guides always attempt to shift to the direction of load. It has nothing to do with rod spine. That rod probably doesn't have a very tight fitting ferrule, thus, on the forward cast the tip will tend to twist around. Not likely to happen with a better ferrule.

Coat the ferrule end with dry candle wax. rub a grove into the candle with the end of the ferrule and this builds a thin coat up which will hold the 2 ends together. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
