I have been wondering about using it as a cover coat for a patterned cord grip myself.

I used to mix clear plasti dip and laquer based paints (fluorescent colors) and dip lead head jigs in it. It was the only way I could keep color on my jigs when working in rocks. All others would chip off; the stuff is nearly indestructible.
I quit using it because the curly tails I used on the jigs would melt the stuff into a gooey mess. Other than that, it was great. As long as the jig was in the water, it wouldn't make the mess. Lay it in your tackle box with the tail on it once and you'd never do that again!!

Randy, use Powder Paints.

Plasti-Dip makes really nice custom reel handles. A freind made a few with Yellow, and painted Smiley faces ;) on there, pretty funny.

Scroll down towards the bottom of this thread & look at teh Nautil with teh Eyeball handle. MY friend made this for a guy who has a Glass eye, (he actually shot it out with a Beebee gun - just like parents warned, " Careful you'll shoot your eye out" - well, he did)

Here are the pictures of the Smiley handle

I've used it on tool handles and anchors. It does not stick well to corners, but on flat surfaces or gentle slopes, it's very good. It would tend to be somewhat heavy depending on how thick a coating you want (this is controlled by how quickly you withdraw the item from the dip can) but it could have some applications in the area of rod grips.

There is also a spray-on Plasti-Dip version now, although it imparts only a very, very thin coating per application. I'm sure it's the same basic material but I've not found it to be nearly as tough as what comes in the dip cans.

My son used the Plasti Dip spray on the handle of his foil(for fencing) and it was continually peeling and coming loose, even after stripping it all and clean the handle with alcohol. I don't think the spray stuff is nearly as good as the dipping version.

I have used this on the tip of wooden oars for drift boats for many years to protect the ends of the oars when they are hit on rocks and it works great in this application. It will wear off in time but it takes quite a few fishing seasons before it has to be replaced. When it does have to be replaced it will peal off without too much difficulty.
I have also seen it used over cord grips on rods but it gets fairly heavy when used this way.

I put this stuff on my home-poured boat, canoe, and float tube anchors and it works well. I use the white so I can read water visibility easily also. Ralph

If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again.
