Aquapearl acrylic acetate seems like a snazzy material to use for a fly reel seat.
Would you use a scraper or a gouge to turn it down to size? I've used scrapers on other plastics, and it wasn't pretty. Even with a fresh bevel and burnishing a micro bevel it was touch and go... Any advice? Re: Aquapearl question

Gouge mostly. That's what I've used on most plastics I've turned on the wood lathe. I almost never pick up a scraper for use on plastics. Get it close with a gouge, work with a bastard file and then start sanding.

Where can you get that stuff in sizes big enough for a reel seat insert? All I've seen are for making pens and too thin. Re: Aquapearl question

That's the trouble with so many of neat acrylics - they're poured too thin to allow them to be used for much other than making pens. But, if you keep your eyes open, you'll see that some of them do come in 3/4 or even 1 inch turning squares. Those are the ones you'll have to locate. HUT Products, Craft Supplies USA, etc., are good sources.
