Yes you can go too light. Don't be afraid of it. Put it on until you have enough that it starts to sag. Then go back and take off any excess and you'll be about right. Re: UB-40...can it be put on too light ??

Tom , if you are talking about U-40 Permagloss 1 part finish epoxy , it is a very thin finish . Depending on what type of rod , and what thread you are using , it can take a lot of coats to get any kind of "build" on the wraps . Permagloss dries realativly fast compared to 2 part epoxies , and I put on a coat around an hour to an hour and a half between coats . The roughness can be a number of things , that one has too many thing that could effect the finish to even take a guess at . If you do apply PG to heavy , you will end up with bubbles , at least that's my experience. You will get some bubbles if the previous coat wasn't dry too .
Have fun , John Got Fish ? Re: UB-40...can it be put on too light ??

Hello Tom
Thanks for the question. if your using PermaGloss it is intended to be a multiple coat finish if used over thread wraps. The first few coats will be "rough" and as more coats are added they will progressively get "smooth". It is a humidity cure Urathane product manufactured by Trondak. If your using Trondak epoxy ie U-40 LS Supreme or LS High Build putting on a very light coat could also result in a "rough" finish. LS Supreme is intended to be a two coat fininish and LS High Build is intended to be a single coat finish. However LS Supreme can cover in one coat but it will not give the "high build" look finish. Hope this helps and if you need more information please let me know or contact Trondak U-40 finding them in the sponsor list to the left. Williams suggestion is a good one and will work well. If your using epoxy. If using PermaGloss your problem could be your applying it to heavy the first coat. Perma Gloss needs to be applied using "light" coats. The first coat should saturate the threads and then let it cure before applying the next coat. Trondaks instructions that come with Perma Gloss give guidelines for curing time. Well....proof of my eternal "blondeness" it was the LS Supreme...put a (what I consider to be heavy) coat on today and it looks like a million bucks !!
Thanks folks !! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
