What you're looking at there is a product used to keep the wood from checking and cracking as it dries. What I think you're after isn't really stabilized wood per se, but acrylic impregnated wood. This is the hard stuff that you can buff and which really wears like hard plastic in the out of doors.
There has been some talk of guys making a slurry from clear acrylic rod and acetone and then soaking the wood in that. The idea is that it will absorb the slurry. I haven't tried this but if the wood was soaked in solvent alcohol first in order to remove the resin, then I can see where the slurry might just be absorbed into the wood to some degree. It would be an interesting project to try.
