Painting A Reel Seat !

I am going to build a salt water rod using predominately black and bronze wraps.I would to know if there is a procedure for painting the barrel of a graphite reel seat bronze to match the wraps. My concern is that the bronze doesnt become scratched etc. after a few uses.Has anyone ever tried this before? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks again,
Tom

I have painted lots of seats on saltwater rods black with several coats of spar urethane as a top-coat. They have held up very well...a few are over ten years old and still look good.

Bill Boettcher paints a lot of his seats, he sands the threads down, paints with auto touch up paint then covers with permagloss i believe.Bill will correct me if i am wrong. John
