Cork sealing question

I am building inshore saltwater rods that get a ton of use. I am thinking of sealing the cork to get a different, possibly more classy look.

My question is what should i use? Perma Gloss?

How should i apply it and how many coats?

And how will this coating hold up to a saltwater enviroment?

THANKS!

I like 5 coats of Miniwax stain, but you might consider 3 coats of a spar varnish. Use 0000 steel wool to dull the varnish.

I build inshore trout and redfish rods. Have used Tru Oil with good results for about three years. Two to three coats and let dry between. I have now flocked a few since seeing the demo in Charlotte and I think they will be my choice from now on. A little more work but seems to be well worth the effort.

IMHO, the best off-the-shelf, non-botique finish is satin Minwax Rub-on Poly.
