Thread over decal

Some time back someone, whose name I cannot remember, posted a picture of a fish decal which had been wrapped over with a metallic thread. The thread became basically transparent when epoxy was applied. I think the thread was Gudebrod Pearl White. It was a very nice effect. I tried this last night using Rice Iris metallic thread. It became transparent in some places and not in others. Does anyone remember who it was that posted this?

That was John Dow, and I believe he used a regular brown thread, not metallic. All of the nylon threads will go transparent to some degree, especially the lighter ones, if not treated with CP. The tans and light to medium browns will give the effect of stained water.

Tom,
You're right. I found the original messages and it was Putter who talked about the Gudebrod Pearl Metallic.

I used light brown Gudebrod nylon with no CP , that was a brown trout decal , and it was on a black blank (matt). I would imagine that Garnet nylon would look nice too . Have Fun , JHD
just a side note , I tried the same thing over a name decal that was printed be Decal Connection , the color of the decal was metalic gold ........ it came out even better , but I have no pic of it . Good luck

Got Fish ?

Ever since that post, I have been meaning to check if that thread was actually Gudebrod Pearl Metallic or if it was called Iris. I can't remember so I'll go look now...

In my Gudebrod catalog, under the picture, they call it Pearl White. Where they list the threads, they just call it Pearl. I remember something else, now. When I got it, I didn't like the looks of it and sent it back; I'll have to reorder some to even play with it, now :(

Iris is the name Rice uses for what appears to be their version of Pearl White.
