I have a customer that I built a few rods for. After comparing my rod to his factory rods he was bothered by the factory rods finish (lack of on some guides) on his Shimano Clarus rods. He has 26 of them that he wants me to put a light coat over the factory coat on some of the guides. Is this going to be a problem after preping the old finish? What would you use to roughen up the old finish?
Thanks David Banaka Re: Flex Coat over other finishes?

I use gray Scotchbrite pads. Mask off the area around the guide so that you don't nick the finish on the rods, though. Putter Williston, ND Re: Flex Coat over other finishes?

As Tom stated in another thread do not wipe with alcohol after sanding(or any other solvent).I usually blow it clean with compressed air.If you dont have a compressor the spray cans of air used to clean keyboards and electronics will do just as good if not better. Fred,
I think Tom was refering to someone that had stripped the finish off the rod blank then used alcohol to clean the blank. You do not want to get solvents on an unsealed blank. I don't think there is any problem with using aclohol to clean sanding dust off wrap finish epoxy. I do it if I have to sand the finish on a wrap. I use alcohol pred prep pads and have had no problems. Hank On The Rocks Fishing Wells, ME. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
