I am having a @#$%& of a time with white overwraps. No matter how well I pack them, they always show a little of the black underwrap between the threads. I was wondering would it be ok to wrap the white thread over itself giving me 2 wraps of white. Does anyone know if this would be a problem? Or if yall have a better solution, please tell me about it. Im pulling my hair out over these white wraps. Re: Guide wrap question

I also made this mistake recently. The guys here on the board advised never to put light over dark without using CP on the dark threads. Next time, if I don't want to use CP i'll put the dark over the light. Bill in WV Re: Guide wrap question

Thanks for the tip William. The guy im building this rod for wants the white threads on top so im gonna have to make do. I wrapped one of the white overwraps over itself and aside from being a tad thick it doesn't look too bad. At least the dark doesn't bleed through. Im just wondering if it's a good idea to do that or not. Re: Guide wrap question

Donnie, I would suggest using white for your underwrap and doing a "false" underwrap of black where you want the black to show, basically large inlays. Takes a bit of measuring but well worth the trouble. Re: Guide wrap question

What about a white dye on the white overwrap? Think that might work? Re: Guide wrap question

Mask off the area to be wrapped and paint it white, then wrap.

This is the wrap. I have an underwrap of dark yellow, An overwrap of black, then another overwrap of white. Its a boat rod with roller guides. Do I paint the black overwrap? Re: Guide wrap question

I assume the reason for the yellow and black is that you're leaving some kind of trim wrap of those colors showing somewhere in the wrap; can you make these false wraps or just trim bands and wrap the white on the blank then?
It'd be darned hard to paint thread by itself, but you could put a coat of finish over the yellow and black, then mask and paint on top of the dried finish, wait for this to dry, and then wrap the white... Putter Williston, ND Re: Guide wrap question

Add some white Tap Pigment to some finish tape off theunderwrap and apply the white finish to your white thread (move the tape before the finish sets) and you will get a very high gloss pure white finish.
