Crankbait rod on a spinning blank

I am looking to build a crankbait rod for bass fishing. My local supplier has a Rainshadow ISB783 (Spin Bass Rod) blank in stock. I was hoping to use the IMB783 (Mag Bass Rod). From the catalog the differences appear to be in the lure wt, butt, tip and blank wt.

Rod Lure wt Butt Tip Weight
ISB783 5/16 - 3/4 0.570 4.5 2.10 oz
IMB783 1/4 - 3/4 0.565 5.5 2.30 oz

1) Can anyone tell me if there are other differences to consider?
2) Will the rod behave the same or is there some major differences between a casting and spinning blank?

Thanks
Tim

The blank doesn't know if it's a spinning or casting blank. Just find the one which has the properties you are looking for.

It's more the action to be concerned with for a good working crankbait rod.
Generally, you'll want that time for the fast reaction and retrieve so that the moderate action specific to good crankbait blanks do what you want. I'de go with St. Croix crankbait blank that is model 3M66MHM for crankbaits over 1/2 oz. You could use this moderate action blank for either spinning or casting setup.

The Rainshadow IMB783 and ISB783 are both too stiff for a crankbait rod. You will be happier with something that is a little more moderate.

I have found the moderate popping rod blanks, and the old Forecast SP blanks to also work. The ISP Rainshadows may have a very similar action to the old SP Forecast blanks. The old SP 843 Forecast had a similar action to my 3C70MM St Croix crankbait blank.

I agree with Skeet -- WAAAAAAAAAAY too heavy power and fast action for crankbait rod. The St. Croix crankbait rods are nice blanks, although I finde the MM to be way too wimpy for anything bigger than a #5 Shad Rap. I do however like the MHM in the St. Croix Avid series -- I've got 3 of them. However, my favorite crankbait rod is made from a 7' Lamiglas 3-weight popping rod blank.
