Wraps turned dark under LS

I just finished a rod I was making for my brother for his burthday. I used black nylon for the underwraps. and orange nylon for the guide and overwraps. Don't know if they were NCP or not, they were some that that some kind sole sent me. After applying the LS finish the orange wraps turned very dark and stayed there. Should I have used some CP?

Yes! If you want the thread to stay the same color as the spool, you need to use CP. If it was NCP thread you would know it. It would not change color and look rather dull sort of like paint. If it were NCP thread, it would have said it on the spool

Plus, you should always put the lighter color under the dark color, you get color-bleed and cannot keep the light stuff light on top.

Bill,

If it was the black National thread I sent you it was NCP.

Hank,

I don't know, it was on a white plastic spool, about the size of a Gudebrod 100 yd. spool. It had no labels on it. So many people sent me spools of black thread, I've got enough to probly do 50 rods. The folks on this board have been so generous and willing to help out.

You should put at least one wet coat of CP even on NCP and metalic thread, Just to be on the safe side!
Unless you want the Transparent look
