Test with CP, regular nylon and NCP

Dear friends,

I had read about using CP with regular nylon and how it becomes translucent if no color preserver is applied. But I couldn't imagine the effect, so I decided to make some test, including NCP thread.

I made some layers of regular nylon, size A from Gudebrod (light blue, 037) and the same but NCP thread.

You can see the result on [www.fishright.com] (excuse me but I don't know how to include links).

Nubers 3 and 4 are made with a layer of NCP thread and then covered by a layer of regular thread, just to see how regular one is affected over a "light bottom" (not the blank blank).

It can be maybe interesting for newbies like me.

Upper one: before applying finish
Middle one: after applying finish
Lower one: detail

1.- NCP without CP
2.- NCP with CP
3.- regular nylon over NCP with CP
4.- regular nylon over NCP without CP
5.- regular nylon without CP
6.- regular nylon with CP
7.- raw blank (black)

First of all I got surprised because NCP changes its color (it becomes "wet") if finish is applied without CP (1). And id stays wet for the time being, I think. So final color when using NCP thread without CP will trend to be darker than original one.

Both NCP and regular nylon threads maintain their color just if CP is applied (2 for NCP and 3 and 6 for regular). Otherwise, regular one will become translucent (4 and 5).

For those more experinced I have a question: edge between zones 2 and 3 becomes "wet" after CP is applied (in a continuous way in both zones). It stays like this even 24 hours after CP is applied and remains after finishing. Why?. Effect is much visible that in the pictures.

Maybe it was stupid to make this test, but I was sure NCP didn't chage color and he did. I could also observe translucent effect.

Are however this changes always like this? How can then final color be determined when NCP is used? Just after finishing?. Will this "wet" areas dry in the future?

Daniel - It seems like you made a good experiment. Unfortunately, I could not view your photographs. The LINK you included [http://www.fishright.com/images/cpp.jpg] reported "Forbidden: You don't have permission to access /images/ on this server." So, it seems impossible to access it this way, as you suggested may be the case. .

However, if you POST the pictures *.JPGs on [http://www.fishingphotos.net/], and then provide the link in another Reply, then the RBO Forum can view them and see what you are talking about. A Dios, Senor Rotea. -Cliff Hall, Florida-U.S.A.-

Good Morning, Billy V. - Hey, you're The Thread Doctor, and one of the Weaver Wizards around here anyway, not me. What say you about Daniel's results? -Cliff Hall-
