forming & finishing EVA grips

I have a few EVA grips that I would like to use, i'm stumped on how to shape them (I dont have a drill press or lathe) and how do you finish them for a butt cap or do you use a plug of sorts?

Thanks

Rich

I have used a Piece of Steel Round stock and use Tape to match ID. spinn on my hand drill (Clamp the Trigger). Grizzly has a hobby lathe you can power with a 1/2 inch Drill
for around $100.00 including the Drill

Rich:

I have done three EVA grips thus far. All have been done after mounting them on the blank - a practice I will change as outlined in another post about mandrels -vs- blanks for turning handles.

I built a homemade "lathe" using a drill mounted upsidedown on a couple blocks of 2x4 and a nylon strap to secure it.

From there, I turn them just like cork and have gotten some very nice results. Be sure to graduate from 150 grit up to at least 600 grit without skipping. (150,220, 320, 400, 600) some guys I have seen go beyond that too but I have been very happy with the 600 grit finish.

Good Luck!

~Troy
