Fiber glass tape for arbor

Can someone give me a review on fiber glass tape for arbors? I have heard it works pretty good.

Thanks,

David Banaka

It works great, but it is very messy. I switched to graphite arbors, but now using the flexcoat arbors and won't be going back, to tape or graphite unless the need arises. You also use a lot less rod bond with the flexcoat arbors which equals a lot less weight.

.......What Myles said . The mesh tape is good and strong , as is masking tape (when used in thin applications), but the graphite is less messy and MUCH faster...... JHD

It works fine for close fitting joints. Once you have much room to take the flex coat arbors are just much better and they're much faster anyway. Picked up a bunch in Charlotte and with the pilot bits this is almost too easy.

I wonder if any rod factories will switch over to these? It should save them some $$$ and in today's labor market it seems like the only way to mount reel seats. I would think an employee could mount 10 seats with these in the same time it takes to mount one with masking or drywall tape.

It works fine, however I would highly recommend rod bond than the more liquid epoxies. It's a lot less messy and goes faster. I use the 3" width, wrap dry for the thickness measurement, then split and make one arbor on each end of the reel seat. Fill the ends with rod bond.

For speed, nothing beats the flexcoat arbors though. About .75 compared to pennies for the glass tape.
