New to building and am looking for suggestions on a good blank to be used for Redfish. A Med-Hev, fast action. Any suggestions would be helpful. Re: Red Fish Blanks

Hi Stephen,
I build a lot of rods specifically for Redfish and Speckled Trout here along the Texas Coast. Until Recently I had been building mostly 842 and 844 popping Rods by AllStar, Loomis or some other Manf. These days I have really fallen in love with HotShot blanks for this purpose. If you can locate one, a 7'6" HS900 makes a tremendous Popping Blank. If you like you can trim a few inches off the butt to make it 7' even. For something a little longer (say for Surf Fishing), an HS930 (7'9") or even an HS1021 or HS1023 (8'6") will throw a 3/4 oz. Rapala into the next zipcode. For closer in fishing, I really like the AllStar BAT806 (6'8") or BAT815 (6'9") cast/spin blanks. These blanks are perfect for heacy topwater action or pluggin with a Mirrolure. Of course the tried and true line of Poppin' blanks are a sure bet, but I find the above actions are a little more refined and technique specific. If you're interested, I have some HS1021s left in stock that I am letting go for a tremendous price as well as some BAT815s www.lamarreelseats.com Andy Dear Lamar Manf. If your primary target is redfish you should consider Mag Bass blanks. Try any of the manufacturers 6' 6" or 7' 3-powers. If speckled trout are in the mix, I really like the forgiving nature of most popping blanks for larger trout. The Lamiglas LP844 or IP843 are good choices. Re: Red Fish Blanks

Stephen,
I think Andy has given you a lot of great ideas, I fished everything in the water with my hot shot rods when I got stationed in Miami almost 20 years ago. Others that tried them were also extremely surprised by their lightness in the hand, balance and versatility. Spencer Re: Red Fish Blanks

You might want to take Andy up on his offer as the All Star blanks are no longer being sold, except in finished rods. Shakespeare also dropped five models of the finished salt water rods from the All Star line. Re: Red Fish Blanks

GUSA BSW70L/M Built several of spinning rods using this blank and everyone has been extremely pleased. They are a little heavier in hand, but this translates into more durability, as far as GUSA blanks go. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
