I am in the process of building a fly rod. I am going to use a PacBay channel lock reel seat with an interior diameter a tad smaller than a 16 mm
FlexCoat arbor. Having never used these arbors before, can these arbors be turned down? I have Andy Dear's mandrel that will fit the arbor and I am thinking of using a very fine sand paper on a block to get an even sanding. Anyone foresee a problem with that? Re: Question about reel seat inserts

You'll have no problem turning the FC arbor down, but depending on your definition you shouldn't need to use "very fine" sandpaper. I'd probably go with 180 if you're nervous about it, or 120 a little more carefully. A flat sanding block will help you keep it "true", as you suggested.
Have fun! Nothing like fine yellow dust all over the place! :) Re: Question about reel seat inserts

Thanks John,
I assure you that I will do the sanding outside. I have a wife on steroids (literally) and she would hurt me if I did any sanding inside the house or garage. By the way, I visited your site yesterday for the first time and see that you have a very good selection of Forecast fly rod reel seats. Cheers, Ellis Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
