A friend from work mentioned that he had some spare blanks laying around that were given to him quite by the brother of the wife of a friend who worked at a blank factory that went out of business in Nevada . Turns out he has several hundred of these things. Most of them appear to be tip sections for fly rods, though we were able to peice together some whole rods with a little scrounging (besides getting all the reamers and scrap blanks I could ask for).
Most of them are brown in color (like tiger eye), though some are black or even blue/purple. There are tags on some of them that read like Teton x46708, GT23408, HT 53+3 Samscione, and GT48908. That's all I have to go on. Does anybody know where these things might have come from? Thanks Brian Re: Mystery blanks

Mound House, NV. J. Kennedy Fisher. They made blanks for themselves and many, many other companies. They've been gone for about 10 years now, I think.

If he has some tips of those fly blanks that don't mate up to butts, I'd sure be interested in getting about a dozen for ice rods...

One of the reasons that I got into rod building is that I saw a display of custom rods at a boat show. They were the nicest rods that I had ever seen and the rod builder invited me to come by his shop. At the time you had to order a minimum order at wholesale prices if you had a license. I started buying rod blanks from him, got a license and sold all the rods that I made from the Kennedy-Fisher blanks. I wish I had kept some of the blanks for myself. In my opinion, they were the best blanks at the time. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
