I am about to put the guides on a 5 wt fly rod I am building for my newphew's high school grduation. His school colors are black and orange. Is their a black-orange size A wrapping thread that any of you have had success with? I know I can just use two threads but would like to try a double color thread that is solid enough to do do the job in one wrap. I also just finished my first feather inlays. Carefully sized and cut the feathers, tacked them down with Flex Coat CP a bit diluted, (the CP not me), cut some rainbow sparkle gold tensil for symetric filler and followed builders suggestions and hints. It was not perfection but I really like the homemade,natural look. This stuff is addictive. Thanks Steve

I got some that is orange and black, but it's size E. It's Gudebrod Jasper. Bought it off @#$%&.

Does anyone know if Gudebrode still makes any version of the multicolor variated thread or is the Trimar type the only think like that they make now??

Gudebrod still makes the nylon variegated thread in size A but it is only available in 100 yd. spools. They have a green/black, yellow/black, ORANGE/BLACK, red/black, and white/black. They call it Classic Twist.

Linda at Summer Moon Rod Works (sponsor) may still be able to provide you a complete 4-page color layout of Gudebrod's Thread line, as they did when they sent my SMRW Catalog in August '04. Trimar SilverTone or GoldTone is available in 6 colors (BLACK, white, blue, green, brown, red) blended with either (silver or GOLD).

Try taking a black Sharpie marker to a spool of size "A" Orange thread. Clemens, in Advanced Custom Rod Building calls it "Amazing Wraps" (pg. 239). Use the Sharpie from side to side on the spool. It will only penetrate one layer at a time. The resulting wrap is very interesting.

click on The Favorite (fly rod model under Granger Rods) and see a classic use of jasper thread. make sure you click on the small photo to the right. this will lead to an enlarged view. i see gudebrod offers a black/orange version of that thread. i'm personally going to try black and white trimmed with red. i can be highly unoriginal ;-)

I think Rice also makes this color. Go to the Fishsticks site, click on "Thread" and then on two-tone nylon, size A.

Jim Had a little time this afternoon and I went down to my fly room and found some Gudebrod size A thread. I got a thin black permanent marker and went side to side across the thread. Did a wrap on an old dark-gray blank. Didn't look half bad. Made the marks a little heavier across the thread and did another wrap. I really lked the look. The mascot for their school is a tiger and this heavier marking had a more jungle cat look to it. I plan to use this wrap and also do a little orange vs black/white grizzly feather inlay. I will put a flex coat CP on this practice wrap and see how it turns out. Thanks for the idea. Steve

Steve- Another idea could be the use of a golden pheasant feather....they actually look a lot like a tiger stripes. Valley Tigers?

Jason Liked the golden pheasant feather idea. Actually thought I had some in an misc. fly stuff box but I couldn't find them. Will go out tomorrow to Scheels or Sportsmans of Ankeny and look for some. Yes my nephew is a Valley tiger.
