Help-Help- Help what do I do now,but take a long walk on a short pier???Have been working on a make over on surf rod for the shop foreman at the shop where I work.Revoved the guides and rewrapped them, replaced the tip top.Really looking good.So just to add a nice touch to his rod I thought that I would marble the butt end .Have been practicing for months now since I seen what( Putter ) has been doing with it. Thought this was my chance to put it no a rod.Well if I do say so myself it came just great. I think that if (Putter ) could of seen it he would have put his seal of approveal on it.Now for the help.Rod on dryer turning for about a half hour.I turn to my table to pick up a sheet of paper that I needed, just happend to cross over the turning rod, end of paper flopped over and caught the turning rod at where I put the marbleing.Disaster.Destroyed it I must say.Now how long do I have to let it cure before I try to take it off to do it over?????Sorry this was so long.

It will be easier to get off if you don't let it harden. Tomorrow you can probably just nick the edge with a blade and peel it right off. Either way, you're not sunk. You can overwrap it with thread the same general color as the blank (or use white NCP) and marble again on top of that. You have a lot of options here. Don't sweat it. What you have is just a slight but annoying set back. Things won't seem so bad in the morning.

If it doesn't come off, just put a new base coat of colored epoxy on and start over. No big Deal!

Heavens, you just got one more practice in ... I know the next one will be that much better!! It'll come off very easy tomorrow; the epoxy doesn't stick too badly. You'll be just fine and the rod will be that much better-just be sure and charge him for all of your extra practice work to make him "the perfect rod!"

Thanks Guys for your help, thats just what I was planning on doing. Turn the light off, close the door, and walk away until tomarrow .
And Putter since you have mentioned the word charge for my work ,I didn't give him a cost figure because I did not know what people charge for replaceing one guide and rewrapping the others.Any idea on priceing? The marbleing was going to be on me.
Thanks again all.

Donald,
Don't feel bad and don't panic. Anyone that build rods has screwed up like that numerous times. As Tom and Randy say if you wait until the epoxy is firm but not hard, depending upon the type of epoxy that you have used, you should be able to nick the edge with you finger nail or if it is a little harder you may have to use something sharp and then it should peel off relatively easily. If that does not work because the epoxy has gotten too hard on you it can be heated a little, I say a LITTLE, with a alcohol torch or even ciagette lighter and it should crumble when rubbed with your finger nail and come off. If worse comes to worse you can always follow Mike's advice and just wrap over it and start over. Like Mike says it is "not a big deal", forget the long walk on the short pier. You can fix it and no one will ever know except us and we will not tell your shop foreman.

F.Y.I--- I done just what you all said to do.I waited till today late to do anything with it .Took my xacto knife and made a small cut at the begining of the marbling, lifted the end and peeled it right off no mess what so ever.Done it over, look great.and since I don'nt have the means to take pictures ' don'nt know what one looked better. However the second does look good thought.

( PUTTER) you said charge for the pratice , however I was just to replace one guide and rewrape the rest. Was'nt sure what to charge for that, can you help me out here with the going rate for rewrappin guides.the Marbling was on me..He does have a trolling motor I would like to may be trade off for.

Thanks again for the help!
