Will I have any problems appling the LS over Flex Coat after I sand out the crapy look I'm getting from the Flex Coat? Also I would like to use up the Flex Coat I have on the first application because it goes on fine over my wraps the first time around. The problem I'm having is my finishing coats. I get uneven, and tiny pin points sticking up. I tried very thin coats, warm epoxy, spachela, credit cards, and very few brush strokes, but still having the same out come no matter what I try. I sure hope the LS will get me the glass, smooth look like the pros I've seen in Rod Maker Mag. Thanks again for all the advice. With out this board I would be completely lost. I'm pretty sure the rods in Rodmaker are mostly done with Flex Coat. Isn't that correct, Tom? I know that Flex Coat is the predominant finish on the market today. I have used the Supreme and Flex Coat and get about the same results although I find the Supreme to be clearer on light colored threads. It also takes more coats to get the same depth. I have only built and repaired a few rods but I find myself leaning toward LS Supreme more and more. The Supreme seems to flow better for me and I get a much better finish than when I use Flex Coat. I know what Butch is talking about when you see what the pros end result is and compare it your/my own end result. Flex Coat just hasn't done it for me. I get alot closer (still not perfect) with LS Supreme. nick Re: LS supreme over Flex Coat?

Everybody applies finish a bit differently. Although all of the finishes, including Flex Coat, are fantastic when properly used, each builder is likely to find a particular one that works best with his or her respective method of finishing. Flex Coat is the most widely used finish. Most of the rods you see in the RodMaker photos very likely have been finished with Flex Coat. If you were to look at a wide variety of well made and finished rods from many different rod builders, you would see finishing results that appear very similar even though a wide variety of different epoxies were used. As I said, all work well, you just have to find the one that matches your application style the best. I will not argue, however, that most finishing problems are caused by the finisher, rather than the finish. ................. Re: LS supreme over Flex Coat?

I have just now completed two identical St Croix 8 wts. One for my wife and one for me. I used LS supreme on one and Flex Coat Lite on the other. The visual results are absolutely identical. Both flowed extremely well and are perfectly smooth. Both are totally absent of bubbles although, with the LS supreme I had to pop a few bubbles during the initial stages of curing. Both are crystal clear. Both cured in about the same amount of time. Except on the smallest guides the LS supreme required two coats. Two coats were required on all guides with the Flex Coat. There was 10 to 15 minutes more working time with the LS supreme. I used the stiff nylon brushes from Flex Coat. As of now I would call it a draw. Ask me again in about a year! Hope this either helped or eased your mind. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
