Hello, I'm building a 3 piece fly rod with a fighting butt, My question is should I, or probally better said is it OK to cut the butt section of the blank to match the length of the other sections.
Thanks Paul Kalbrener Re: fighting butt

You can, but you then shorten the overall effective length of the rod. Still, a couple inches won't change much.
Or, you could leave the butt a couple inches longer than the other sections to perhaps protect them a bit. Of course you'll have to have a bit longer than standard tube. ........... Re: fighting butt

Paul , if you don't need the fighting butt to be a removable one , you can build it right on the blank . The only set back is the seat will be a couple on inches "up" the blank , thus making a shorter rod. Same as cutting it though......... JH Got Fish ? Re: fighting butt

Howdy....you didn't indicate preference: Is the FB gonna come off, or is it gonna be perm. affixed?
If it's going to be affixed, then you can follow the above post, and advance the reel seat forward the distance you want to accomodate the FB. If it's removable, then you can follow that plan with factory length. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
