Hello, Everyone I am new to the Rod building scene and I have a Fenwick 130lb class rod and I would like to redue it . What is the best way to remove the old finish and also the foam grip from the blank so I can rewrap it and replace the grip? Does anyone know what type of grip that is on that blank now? Thanks for helping this newbie out. Scott Parsons Re: Guide and Grip Removal

You may have the old leather-covered cork grip. If so, you can cut off the leather and sand down the grip, or take it off in chunks with the help of a pocket knife or something. If it's foam, I'd slice it off. In either case, be very careful not to cut into the blank, although that's a pretty beefy blank and I doubt you'd do any real damage unless you really got into it.
You can scrape the finish off, again don't cut into the blank. Then refinish or repaint to your liking. ........... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
