For those who post a photo in a collage type format...what program do you use. I picked up Print Workshop 2005 with the hopes of trying out a collage, and I can only save it in a .pwd format. Because I'm dumb as a stump with computors, any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...Mike

Michael I use Corel Photo Paint, but you should be able to export your pwd file as a bmp or jpep.

I use Microsoft's Picture It! 9.0-I find it very simple to import the pictures into this program and start with a blank background, click, drag, and re-size each photo to fit the dimensions of this blank starting background. I'm a computer dummy, but this program really makes it easy for me. I have Adobe, but it's just not quite as user-friendly for dis idiot! LOL

I don't know what type computer you have. With a Mac, you don't need additional software. Just arrange your photos the way you want right on the desktop and take a screenshot by pressing apple;shift3. If you press apple;shift4, you can take a selected screen area shot and crop the areas you don't want at the same time. Takes but a single second and you can post the photo right from there.

If you're working with a different computer system I don't know if this sort of thing is possible without additional software. Heed the advice others give you if that is the case.

tom, no WONDER you're capable of pulling off all of the projects you do. the magazine, the web site, constant feedback and advice on these discussions (not to mention endless, repetitive newbie question delivered with friendly aplomb and patience) as well as the charlotte rod show and i ASSUME a private life! it's clear to me, everything is suddenly very obvious! why didn't i realize this beforehand?

you use a mac!

I could not possibly do all that I do with a windows machine. The Mac really does make a difference. It's twice as productive for the same time spent and you aren't faced with crashes, freezes, etc. The better software made for the Mac platform doesn't hurt either.

Thanks for your input guys...I'll look into the windows version (sorry...."Macless in Seattle") or try to figure out how to do it with what I've got without breaking things!!!

I like the way some of the collages come out, though they do lose some clarity. That format would be ideal for "hands on picture posts" of step by step "how tos".....eg. a pictorial on the growth of a weave, decwrap, feather inlay, or a trim band. Sometimes seeing something done is alot better than the written word.

I use Adobe Photoshop. Picture it is also a great program. Any decent program will let you do a collage without losing any details. If the photo clarity is sharp and you know how to use your programs settings, you can actually increase the clarity.

For desktop publishing, a mac cannot be beat. Personally I prefer Macs but when it was time to upgrade years ago, I couldn't afford on.

I use Jasc Paintshop Pro which is similar to Photoshop but far less expensive. Lots of features and easy to use... probably can't do some of the high end things that you can do in Photoshop... but plenty good for the average person.

Jasc Paintshop Pro can use all of the Plug-ins that Photoshop uses. Very good program. Any halfway decent graphics program can do a Collage.

Thanks for asking this question. I was going to ask the same question yesterday but didn't get around to it.
