shortening glass blanks

I want to shorten an 8' glass fly blank that I have (to about six and a half, about). I know I can cut some material of the butt, but is there anyway to shorten the blank and keep the sections the same length?

Been there done that. Buy one the size you want. Complete that one and use it and or sell it
After you shorten it, it will be a heaver weight line

Cutting from butt will reduce the available power and could make it a lighter line blank.

Bill is right - shortening one that much may cause problems. If you shorten the butt the tip is just naturally going to be longer. No way you can keep the sections the same length if you only trim from the butt. Trim from the tip and at that much length lost I think you'd have a club for a rod.

I did a 9' 5 wt and shortened both sections from the butt to keep them the same leangh. But it became about a 7 plus. did not like it and would not do it again. The shorter sections became stiffer and needed more heavy a line to load the rod
