Matt,
Since you are a chater captain I'll assume that these rods will see some routine, heavy workouts (casting, jigging - that is more than once a week for months at a time). If the water is fairly 'clean' with not much in the way of suspended particles - ocean, inshore & fairly deep over sandy bottom or rocks then the hardloy will work fine for you. If however, you are thinking about use in roiled water (suspended mud, silt and fine sand) on a fairly regular basis then you can go "half the way" to SIC with the titanium nitride or silver titanium rings from American Tackle , save yourself some $$ over the cost of SIC guides as well. For saltwater applications I'd also recommend you look at the gunsmoke finished guides (I think they may also be called "black chrome"). Re: hardloy guides and braided line question
