Is it alright to use Burl Cork as the last ring on a grip.I have rounded off the grip on both ends and have applied Cork Seal. The reason I ask was I found this statement on one of the sponsors sites
"Burl cork is an amalgam of dark cork particles, not a piece of true burl from a cork oak. As such, it makes a great accent within a grip, but should not be used as the last ring on either end of a grip because it will tend to chip out over time if the edges are not supported."Thanks Joel Re: Burl Cork?

You CAN use it. Of course. But, it is more prone to flaking than standard or rubberized cork. Your quoted statement is quite true outside of saying "should not". You always have the option to do whatever you like to do. I avoid using burl cork at the ends of my grips. Re: Burl Cork?

Coating it with several coats of Permagloss or a good coat of finish will give it shine, bring out the cork particals nicer and protect it, at least for a while Re: Burl Cork?

I did it once, won't do it again, the burl cork butt ring became badly damged in one season. Replaced it with a rubberized ring. Re: Burl Cork?

Thanks for the replies.I did use a rubberized cork ring for the butt cap.I will use this info when building grips in the future.Joel Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
