hey guys. Where do you get the tools for tightening your wraps and butt wraps. Clemens mentions one in his book. Also where do you get the device to make the checkered pattern cork?
Sincerely,
Dan Colville

Dan I make most of mine, also asked my dentist for his old dentist picks and he gave me a handful. You can get the jigs for cutting checkered cork from Bob at Custom Tackle Supply he has two jigs.

I get a lot of my tools at a local Ace Hardware store. This store has a bin full of stuff that looks like dental tools that are sold very cheaply. I have bought small scissors, bobkins, burnishing tools and other things that I use in fly tying and rodbuilding. I found a tool that has a hook on each end that I use for picking out threads while weaving.
Cheers, Ellis

i found a pair of scissors/snips, the kind which are used for sewing without loops for the fingers or thumbs for about $1.39 at my local harbor freight tools. cheap, somewhat primitive when it comes to the finish, but cuts thread cleanly and quickly.

I have found quite a few old dental picks at surplus stores, and even picked up a few at a gun show once. I always tell people that get into rod building that a burnishing tool is invaluable. I have about a half dozen of them so I can always find one on my messy work bench. You can get one from many of the sponsors to the left

I use razor blades, a crab fork and a couple of dental picks. My favorite burnisher is the lid of my zippo.

Bic pens are good burnishing tools too. Just don't let your dog get a hold of it without you knowing first.

For a packing thread and burinishing I use a disposable artist type brush that I sharpened one end when it gets a little dull a piece of sandpaper and i am in business again. I would try a metal on but I am paranoid if getting 2 or 3 hours or more into a buttwrap and cut a thread.
