Regular hair dryer you get at a Drug Store. I use that works well. If you get the auto type, you may burn the rod, finish. Those are hot as H--l .

There are other ways to eliminate bubbles prior to needing heat. I am sure you will get a variety of answers. I rarely get bubbles to begin with, but will use a Map Gas torch occasionally held about 8-12 inches away from the wraps and apply heat in a rapid but short back and forth method. My reason for heat isn't to remove bubbles, but rather, feel it helps level the epoxy I use while the rod is turning. Everyone has a method, so nothing is right or wrong. Carefull preperation, thread burnishing, cp application is used, and application of the epoxy can and will eliminate most bubbles. If a bubble occurs during application at the guide foot tunnel, in an ornate butt wrap, or anywhere else, it's as easy as using your own breath to blow on it and pop the bubble. You want something that won't blow a lot of air as that runs the risk of blowing dust and debris into your wet wraps. You also want to avoid a soot bearing flame, so map gas, alcohol, basically clean burning flame. When in the process do yo get bubbles?

Buffalo makes a small alcohol torch, primarily for the dental trade. Angler's Workshop sells them as "The Bubble Buster", a great little torch for $9.95. Squeeze the bottle and it shoots a tiny pinpoint flame, great for bubbles and also singing thread. One of the best tools on the bench.

I use a regular propane torch. It does not move a large volume of air to stir dust up into the air.

Apply finish, light torch to med flame, and very briefly touch flame to finish. Bubbles should burst, if they don't make a few repeat [asses. How fast to move torch? Run same flame past your hand quickly enough not to burn, that should be speed of flame application. ANy slower and it begins to get a little hot! Same for finish, any slower and it will scorch the finish.

I'm using a hot air paint stripper gun - it has 2 settings hi and low and seems to do the trick very well/quickly on low for bubble and on hi for tip-top removals

I got a regular craft heater. It gets plenty hot, doesn't blow as hard as a blow dryer. 20 bucks at AC Moore. That's out craft house here in Clarksburg, WV, but I'm sure you can get them at Michaels or other craft houses. Ken Preston uses one just like it in his video.

I've seen a portable butane torch/soldering iron for sale in local Radio Shack stores. If you dont have a Radio Shack by you I'ld try a hardware stoe or a home depot type place might have it as well. It comes with a flameless blower tip and works the same way that a flameless cigarette lighter works. It heats a ceramic grid that in turn heats the air coming out of the tip. No flame to burn and not as much air volume as a heat gun to make a mess. I believe that the brand is Master. If you have access to a Snap-On tool truck they have one to but it is alot more expensive.
GOOD LUCK
DANNY

What I use is a craft "embossing gun" available from AC Moore, Michaels or any craft store.
