While finishing a rod the turner stopped and you quessed it some epoxy puddled up on the bottom side of the rod. What is the best way to fix this problem. What I did probably not the best solution. I tried to wipe some of the extra epoxy off because it was still tacky whick led to the epoxy smearing up. Now I have to take all the epoxy off of the butt end of rod. Another problem now is that there is a lot of residue left on the rod blank.. This is what I need to get off. Is it better to leave it alone and epoxy back over this or try to get all of it off. Thanks for all your input, it sure helps alot. Re: taking off epoxy

Try not to hit the threads when sanding Re: taking off epoxy

Will this not take the finish off of the blank because the sand paper is so fine? Re: taking off epoxy

You just want to sand the finish. Tape up the blank on both sides of the wrap to prevent hitting the blank Re: taking off epoxy

What I was trying to say was to let the finish dry. Then sand the bad areas. Then recoat with another coat of finish. I do it by hand with folded paper. Small piece
If the guides and finish are off already then a little heat and you finger nail will remove the finish no need to sand. Wash with alcohol. Re: taking off epoxy

You said that the finish was still tacky when you tried to wipe it down. What I would have done is mix up a new batch of finish and put it on the wraps. Next I would have use heat from a butane torch and then as it licqufied remove the excess with a brush. In most cases this well cure your problem. As for now I would wait 48 hours and lightly sand the old finish as explained earlier.
