Hi. I know metallic thread makes a good accent for trim bands but is it strong enough to use by itself? Does the color fade so I should use a CP? Thanks...Kevin Re: Is metallic thread strong enough for guide wraps?

Hi Kevin, I havent had a problem with metallics holding guides or losing color but I do use CP. Alot ot he guys dont and hopefully they will let you know how the color holds without CP. I would just guess there isnt a problem. Re: Is metallic thread strong enough for guide wraps?

CP is often (mistakenly) thought to prevent fading. It doesn't. It keeps colors from changing when the epoxy is put onto the thread wrap.
Purple metallic seems to be about the worst I've seen for fading; all threads will fade to an extent depending on how much sunlight they're exposed to. CP can be used on metallics but certainly isn't needed. Re: Is metallic thread strong enough for guide wraps?

Actually HT Metallic (3.5 lbs) has a higher break strenth than nylon (2.7) Size A

Hi,
I use metallic on ice rods and have no fading problems. On the freshwater baitcasters I haven't had a problem either. I use Flexcoat Lite for my clear, which now has a UV inhibitor in it, so protects all threads from fading. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
