Hi,
I'm working on this Lamiglas fiberglass rod and decided to use white silk thread for the rod hoping for clear wraps - so I did it - wrapped the ferrules to test it - warmed up some thinned marine varnish in a jar in some boiling water - applied it to the wraps and KAZAMMM - they dissapeared/melted/vanished - all that is left is a glass like band where the wraps were and I noticed I was smiling - a big smile from ear to ear - I always like building rods but I've never been smiling like this before over a ferrule wrap ?? - very stange and very rewarding. Now I cant wait to do the guide wraps. Well sorry for rambling like this but it's too good not to share - I'm sure you all know what I mean :-) Peter Re: Now THAT was fun.....

I did that on a wrap with green thread sort of what Ken Preston did and was amazed on how nice this actually looks. It almost make the guide seem to float on the blank.

Good feeling. That is why I stopped using CP a long time ago Re: Now THAT was fun.....

Hi Terry,
I usually apply about 6 coats of the marine varnish when I'm using nylon - but I dont think I'll need more than about 4 coats on the silk thread due to the small diameter of the silk thread. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
