8'6" Musky Rod

I am looking for a 8'6" blank with a strong butt but soft tip. Batson's SWB e-glass looks good but only goes up to 8". The customer wants it for throwing big "Bull Dawgs". He doesn't want the stiff tip of a Musky rod, but wants the stiff butt of one. Any Ideas?

If you like the Batson, just estend the blank by 6"

That's one way, or you can look at a good Hot Shot blanks. These are usually stout butted but fast and soft tipped. Might be just what he's after.

I'de go along with what Tom says about the hot shot blank. The butt has strength, though I would go with a stouter tipped blank for the heavy bulldawgs. Might be okay with trowing down the smaller sized bulldawgs or swimbaits.

I still have a fair bunch of 8'+ domestic made Rainshadow blanks in the clearance stock if you are interested.

Another blank comes to mind that is the 8' St. croix MH SCII musky blank. It is a bucktail blank having an 8.0 tip top. Add 6" and it may be just what you want. It would be an interesting comparison to try out this and the hot shot blank for those larger plastic baits.

Also check BackBounce blanks. Those are commonly used for Swim Baits for big Bass which are right in line will those BullDawgs. Very similar baits, very similar presentations. Those 12" Bull Dawgs are 6 ounces and a whole lot of bait to be throwing.

Better to have and not need than to need and not have.
