Removing blemishes from butt wrap

Hi All,
After making epoxying butt wraps and leaving them overnight to dry, I often find
small bits of dust have settled on the wrap during the night and spoil what would
normally be a perfect finish.
Is there any way to buff these out of it with fine wire wool and polish them back to
a shine or does one have to resign themselves in re-doing the wrap with epoxy again ?
Thanks in advance,
Glen.

Glen - I take a very sharp knife(exacto or in my case #10 scalple) and very carefully with 5 power magnifiers cut the blem off so the area is flat again then I recoat with a thin layer of finish. BE VERY careful. I am sure there are lots of tricks the guys use so wait a while to hear from some others.

Do NOT use steel wool! Small pieces of it will become embedded in the finish and later rust.

If you want to sand it use emory cloth. By using a light touch and very, very fine paper, and then polishing componds you can get the shine again. But Doc's method is a lot easier.

I have had the same problem with dust since I share the hobby room with the wife, dog and kids. Take and line a box that fits over the rod and your desk area with plastic wrap. Rub the plastic (with a piece of craft fur, so it has a charge. Place it over the rod. The static draws any dust to it and it stays off your rod finish while it is drying.

You can use a grey Scotchbrite pad and scuff the finish and apply another coat. Before epoxying, a trick my dad taught me is to spray the surrounding work area lightly with water out of a spray bottle. This helps keep dust to a minimum.
