Hello all. I was wondering if you can use match guides as the guides before the choke guide. I am building a steelhead rod and usually use alconite guides but I need something with a little more height than the BYAG frame gives. Thanks,
Tom. Re: Match guides and Concept System?

You can use whatever guides provide you with the proper line path. If you need more height to get it right, and the match guides give it to you, then go right ahead.

Thanks for the information. I am building a steelhead rod that is proving to be more complicated than I intended.Anyone else use match guides? Thanks, Tom. Re: Match guides and Concept System?

Not sure about the concept system. However here in the east we build traditional float rods (very similar to Match rods) using high frame guides. I think that is the same guide as the match guide your refering to. Typically they run somewhat smaller in diameter than standard guides so you may have trouble with your stripper guide if you not using a center pin reel or similar.
As far as performance goes, nothing compares, they are smooth, light and surprisingly durable, particularly the SIC type. I can't imagine building light line float rods any other way. If the rod your considering is going to be used for drift fishing with floats or even on bottom I think it would be well worth your effort to find a way incorporate the high frame guides. On the down side these guides can be a real pain with heavier high memory mono lines. They are poorly suited to casting lures or heavy hardware. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
