I think "the jury is still out" on All Star. They have lots of options open to them. One is to continue with their own line of rod blanks, another is to produce rods for other companies under contract still a third is to complete the merger with Shakespeare and only produce their own line of completed rods - just as Shakespeare did with their rod blanks. As rod builders we're (unfortunately) on the low end of a manufacturer's volume / profit concerns.

Steven,
Contact Andy Dear at Lamar Reel Seats. He may have what you want. I bought three blanks from him last week at very good prices.
Cheers, Ellis

There will be literally hundreds and hundreds of All Star blanks at the National Rod Builders Show in Charlotte in two weeks. From what I understand, the prices will be unbelievably low.

If any All-Star dealer leaves Charlotte with any Austiin 8'6" 6wt. 2pc. fly rod models left, it's only because they failed to advertise that blank as one of the best blanks ever built. I can't really put my finger on why that blank is so excellent - it has to go way beyond ERN/AA - but that thing basically casts itself. Whoever designed it is either a genius or just got very lucky. Too bad so few people in the world have taken advantage of that blank design. I cast several other Austin fly rods and thought they were good but not great, but that one was great. The 865-2 was also very good. I can't go to Charlotte but if any All Star dealer is reading this and wants to sell one at a good price, e-mail me. I bought the factory version with oversized goofy snakes and underized tip top and it still was an automatic casting machine. Of course, due to some sort of retardation I sold it because I have this thing about fishing with factory rods. Why didn't I strip and rebuild the rod you ask, well that's where the retardation comes into play.

yeah, unfortunately i can't make charlotte either.... in two weeks the army has me at fort hood, funny how they don't like ya not being where you're told ya need to be. anywhos, i'm specifically looking for three blanks, the BAF1007-2 (for steelies), the BAF904-4 (lacking a 9' 4 wt in the arsenal), and the BAF866-2 (streamer rod). i've just been impressed with most of the ones i've cast and just feel "right" for me. I just thought if I could pick em up for a deal i would, even if they aren't truly needed (can't convince the significant other otherwise, LOL).
