I build rods as a hobby. Finised a Butt wrap. Used NCP but one color with regular thread. When I put color preserver on, the NCP seemed like it stretched, expanded, got all crooked, a real disaster, swore a lot. Can anyone help? Was it tension, the thread combination??????????????????? Sounds to me like your tension and/or packing was on the light side. Should have very little to do with the type of thread. Butt wraps tend to do this anyway. It helps to put a bit of Cp on the crossover points and let it dry before applying to the whole wrap to help keep the threads from shifting. Re: NCP seemed like it expanded HELP!

When putt a coating on butt wraps you have to Baby Site the first coat to see if any of the threads move, which they do some times. I don't use CP on any of my threads, so my butt wraps I put a thin coat of clear on when on the wrapper and check to see if any move Re: NCP seemed like it expanded HELP!

I had this problem also , if you put CP on the intersections of the threads first and let dry , you will have a better second coat of CP on the whole thing . Tom K gave me this advice a long time ago . I also find that NCP swells alot . JH Got Fish ? Re: NCP seemed like it expanded HELP!

Jim Upton mentioned using "invisible thread" in weaving situations to help with thread positioning.
Would that technique also help improve the "CP on thread cross-overs" to help keep the threads in place? Stan Re: NCP seemed like it expanded HELP!

Just lock down the centers with drops of CP and then come back and coat the whole thing. That will hold it in place. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
